while COVID-19 keeps us craft makers and designers behind closed doors, we must keep our critical thinking skills sharpened. During this time of question and doubt this project is a reflection of some of my thoghts about what it means to live in a city in 2020.

Many aspects of our  daily lives have shifted dramatically in the first few months of this world wide event, questions about things we take for granted arise every day. Trips to the grocery store or walking to the dog park are no longer as they were.

Public Space - for those of us who live in the city, the street is an inseparable part of our lives, it is our commute and our park. the first few weeks of the massive self isolation wave changed everything we know about the street, and about the way we see the people who we share it with.

Materials - During the first few weeks of the epidemic, leaving the house and gathering materials has become a much more challenging and risky thing to do. The main materials that were chosen for this study; fabric, repurposed wood and string, represent materials that i found less than 100 meters away from my apartment, around building sites and by commercial bill boards. these materials can be found by anyone.

This project dwells on these topics and challenges my definitions of them, as a way for me to try and understand what these mean to me now.

re purposing objects one they have been removed from usage is a subversive act.

modern industry relies on a linear life span, a material is used once for an intended purpose and then discarded, no matter the condition of the object.

It is the job of modern designers to re evaluate and change the way we see and (re) use these object, objects should be made in a way that they will be able to be taken to their next step in a circular and sustainable system.
